Tuesday Night Music Club pics and impression

In Cafe Sappho, we sat down for one more song after all was over. Reaganesk did his anthem and we joined in as the choir...

Barbara begging the bartender for another round. After the open mic session every Tuesday in Sappho's, we always head for the best whiskeybar in town: L&B. Once we're there and the cd player starts acting weird, we help out by playing a few songs in exchange for 'one for the road'. A good singer-songwriter always gets another round!

Great Lake Swimmers to play tomorrow on ASG Sunday Matinee

We only got confirmation yesterday, so we're frantically trying to inform everybody: Great Lake Swimmers from Ontario are playing on the coming ASG Sunday Matinee tomorrow! They are one of the best quiet bands out there touring our country at the moment. You got to check them out if you like to discover new music. This will be in our lovely old theater Karthuizer Hof in the heart of Amsterdam. Address: Karthuizersstraat 157, next to Lindegracht en Westerstraat. Free entrance, as always. Doors open at 2.30 PM. Hope to see you there!

TNMC gets a promising start

Tony ChapmanLast Tuesday was our first Tuesday Night Music Club, in Cafe Sappho. We will organize this open mic night every Tuesday from now on. There will always be a few featured artists, and it's also a place to try out your stuff. This Tuesday we'll have a singer-songwriter from Sweden, Boy Omega. He'll be playing with a band. It will be his only gig in Amsterdam, so check it out if your smart.

The High LonesomeAnna van Kooij made some excellent pics of last TNMC. I've posted them to the right of this post. We had Pien Feith and Melvin Wevers from Utrecht, and The High Lonesome and Hester from Amsterdam.

HesterThere were three singer-songwriters that played for the open mic: Tony Chapman, Barbara and Jarrah. Jarrah is from Australia and was only here for one week. She likes to sing about the trees in her country. Which, she could tell us, were a lot bigger than ours. Maybe that's why her songs were bigger as well... The crowd liked it a lot, much to her surprise.

BarbaraBarbara and Pien are both strong female singer-songwriters, with an American coffeehouse flavour. To have them both on the bill was quite a treat. Check them out on May 19, where they'll perform in Cafe Soundgarden together with Melvin. Yep, that's another ASG event to watch out for!

Pien FeithLet me leave you with one more newsflash. The ASG will organize a weekly ASG Beach Club, every Sunday on the beach in Zandvoort. No need to go anywhere this summer, you can get your suntan right here at home.

The first Beach Club will be May 15, right after the ASG Sunday Matinee in Amsterdam. Location: Skyline, the Australian Beach Bar in Zandvoort. We'll keep you posted so visit this site often. Or... join our mailinglist!
